Byron has thirteen years of experience in the California electric utility and CCA industries. Not only does he have a deep level of expertise in facilitating the development of procurement strategies for California CCAs, he has demonstrated that knowledge through his execution to develop a comprehensive energy portfolio.

Byron began his career at Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in the Energy Procurement group, where he worked in multiple departments including their Energy Contract Management & Settlements team, the Real-Time Operations trading desk, and the Renewable Solicitations team.

In 2016, Byron joined Marin Clean Energy (MCE), where his responsibilities included power supply resource planning, origination, and contract administration.

At The Energy Authority (TEA) from 2018 until his departure for SDCP, Byron’s primary focus was short-term procurement efforts necessary to facilitate the start-up and expansion of Clean Power Alliance (CPA). This included solicitation-based and bilateral procurement of over $1.7 billion dollars in energy hedging products, resource adequacy, renewable and carbon-free energy, and energy storage transactions.

Since joining San Diego Community Power (SDCP) in February 2021, Byron has immersed himself in a range of start-up and executive activities from load forecast and resource planning and long-term energy procurement and organizational development. Byron has built and developed a team of knowledgeable Power Services specialists, overseeing development of a holistic procurement strategy, including i) market risk hedging, ii) suite of solicitations (wholesale, local, long term, short term), iii) compliance-based RA procurement, iv) long-term PPA and ESSA contracting.

Byron earned both his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in Atmosphere and Energy Studies from Stanford University.
